Kamstrup water meter uses ultrasound to measure water volume. Siemens uses ultrasound or electromagnetic technics for water metering.

The advantage of both techniques is to measure water with great precision without any moving parts in the measuring tube. There are no parts that can be exposed to wear or dirt. The meters have a very long  life time.
